Champion jockey AP McCoy has won the Hennessy Gold Cup – Ireland’s most prestigious chase – for the first time, just a day after announcing he is to retire from racing by the end of the season.
AP was presented with a crystal bowl after a fantastic ride on Carlingford Lough; his second winner of the day. It is undoubtedly the last time AP will ride at Leopardstown. He was given a standing ovation from the Irish crowd as many turned out to watch the Champ ride his way to retirement.
