The legendary 20 times Champion Jockey AP McCoy is to receive a knighthood from Her Majesty the Queen for services to horse racing. AP has dominated the sport for over 2 decades and his outstanding achievements has been recognised in the New Year Honours List.
AP is the greatest jump jockey of all time. He has lifted every trophy, including the Grand National, two Cheltenham Gold Cups, three Champion Hurdles and the Champion Chase. He was crowned Champion jockey for a 20th consecutive year before retiring in April. He is a truly phenomenal sportsman and is only the second jockey, and sixth figure to be knighted for services to racing.
“It is an unbelievable privilege and honour to receive this accolade” said Sir Anthony McCoy OBE. “I wasn’t expecting it at all. I consider myself lucky to have had a job I loved, every single day. The team around me made it possible for me to achieve my goals and the support from the racing community and public since my retirement has been overwhelming. A knighthood really tops off what’s been a crazy and memorable year”.
